Abstract

I wanted to open this volume with an editorial note, since it marks relevant milestones for me. The completion of ten years in charge of overseeing this publishing effort of the Sociedad Mexicana de Ciencia y Tecnología de Superficies y Materiales (SMCTSM), from volume 29. Also, I am glad to announce a rearrangement in the editorial team. This year, Dr. Cristo Manuel Yee Rendón (FCFM, UAS), joins me as co-Editor of Superficies y Vacío, after actively contributing as an Associate Editor, since March 2019.

I want to summarize some of the history of Superficies y Vacío, which publication started back in December of 1989, when our scientific association held its original name, Sociedad Mexicana de Ciencia de Superficies y Vacío (SMCSyV). The periodicity of Superficies y Vacío was originally stated annually, every December, from its origin up to volume 7, published in 1997. Later, one volume was published every semester, in June and December, from volumes 8 through 15 (1999 to 2002). By 2003, this was changed to a trimestral periodicity with one volume per year, divided into 4 issues published in March, June, September, and December, from volume 16(1), up until December 2018 with issue 31(4). Finally, since volume 32 in 2019, publishing flow of Superficies y Vacío was switched to continuous with a single volume per year.

Throughout these stages, with its highs and lows, Superficies y Vacío have continued providing, from the very beginning, an open access place where you can disseminate your research outcomes to the international community for the advancement of science and technology.

I want to thank the authors who choose to publish their scientific results with us, as well as to the peers who selflessly share their valuable time to review the manuscripts, helping us ensure the quality of the articles that we publish. I also want to thank the Associate Editors, with whose involvement I have been able to perform this task; specially Dr. Cristo Manuel Yee Rendón (FCFM, UAS) and Dr. Martín Guadalupe Zapata Torres (CICATA-IPN), for their continued support with the editorial workload. And I take this opportunity to thank Dr. Miguel Meléndez Lira (CINVESTAV-IPN), who in 2013 invited me to participate in this important labor for our Society, the SMCTSM.
